Description
Job purpose

Performs engineering analysis on launch range systems and components and conducts research activities on Range system hardware to identify suitable substitute parts to replace obsolete LTRS assets through form/fit/function/interface (F3I) technical assessments in support of the Space Flight enterprise operations in the Eastern Range (Patrick Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral, Florida


Duties and responsibilities

• Performs engineering analysis on launch range systems and components and conducts research activities on Range system hardware to identify suitable substitute parts to replace obsolete LTRS assets through form/fit/function/interface (F3I) technical assessments  

• Conducts technical review of electrical/mechanical specifications, engineering drawings, vendor data, schematics and wiring diagrams to determine feasibility of potential replacements for obsolete Range assets and coordinates with team principals for needed acquisition of test specimens and suitability testing; develops documentation that effectively communicates deficiency analysis results, recommended mitigation strategies and coordination of Government approvals     

• Report analysis results using Microsoft (MS) Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access and Outlook) to internal customers and the Government Customer 

• Performs logistics assessments of obsolete Range systems and coordinates with Sustaining Engineering functions to determine satisfactory form/fit/function/interface (F3I) replacements to replace the obsolete parts and initiate the appropriate documentation for coordination of Government approvals 

• Resolves Customer supportability concerns with research and analysis of potential mitigations 
 
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements


• Q-Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering disciplines (EE/ME), science, technology, engineering or math.
• Q-Two or more years of study and/or experience in various types of systems engineering and developmental project support engineering functions with system sustainment and engineering process experience preferred
• Q-Experience with Engineering drawings, technical specifications, schematics
• Q-Experience working/study in a systems engineering environment and supporting design, developmental, and sustainment engineering disciplines
• Q-Experience using MS Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access and Outlook)
• Q-Experience working/study in a fast-paced, diverse environment with regimented reporting structure and short suspense dates on reports to customers
• Q-Experience with Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) process and documentation
• R-The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours, on weekends, or holidays to support specific project requirements
• R-Occasional travel may be required
• R-Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship or naturalization
• R-Must be fully vaccinated from the COVID-19 virus, which means two weeks have passed since a single-shot vaccine or the second dose of a two-shot vaccine.  Requests for medical or religious accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Working conditions


Working conditions may vary based on project and requirements. Typical working hours are from 6:55 am until 3:35 PM Monday through Friday but may extend into nights, weekends, and holidays. Temporary project offices will be provided on a case-by-case basis.
Occasion travel to local and/or remote sites


Physical requirements

Normal office environment mobility; sitting, walking, bending, stooping, standing, lifting a maximum of 25 pounds (greater than 25 pounds requires a two-person lift), turning, pushing.  Normal office dexterity, to include; reaching, handling, grasping, to include typing/keyboard, and phone use.
