Description
Job purpose

To provide Hardware Engineering expertise at the Senior Principal level for 8-koi; a diverse Florida based service and consulting company that has been providing outstanding results for our clients for over 14-years now.
The Hardware Engineer Senior Principal designs, develop, modifies, evaluates, and implements new and existing Launch and Test Range hardware and server-based systems; develops system architecture designs, and leads the technical framework of a multi-disciplined project team in support Space exploration enterprise mission partners at the Eastern Test Range.

Duties and responsibilities

• Design, develop, modify, evaluate and implement new and existing Launch and Test Range hardware- and server-based systems
• Lead the technical aspects of a project and the supporting multi-disciplined project team.  Primary focus will be on the Eastern Range supporting Telemetry, Radar, Surveillance, Optical, Communications, Command Destruct, Data Handling, Weather, Timing, and Safety systems
• Research, design, develop, evaluate and implement new capabilities and modifications to existing capabilities for hardware- and server-based systems
• Develop system architectures and designs, define and document system requirements for new and existing products and communicate technical requirements to stakeholders
• Analyze, develop, recommend and implement technical approaches to meet Range requirements
• Analyze technical issues and develop engineering solutions as required to meet system requirements
• Evaluate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products
• Perform radio frequency (RF) link or propagation analysis
• Perform data distribution and performance analysis 
• Conduct site surveys at Range locations
• Conduct impact and feasibility studies for candidate equipment
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers.
• Perform complex systems modeling, simulation, and analysis to provide the most appropriate technical solutions
• Prepare technical reports for internal and external customers
• Lead the technical aspects of a project and support the multi-disciplined project team
• Coordinate and oversee the efforts of all technical support personnel for assigned projects
• Serve as the primary technical interface for project information to internal management and customers, including Range users
• Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, technicians, and Range users
• Conduct/support Unit, Functional, and Product Acceptance testing
• Conduct/support Developmental Test and Evaluation (DT&E) and Operational Testing (OT)
• Participate in system safety analyses and provide input into system test and validation activities 
• Provide technical support to Systems and Software Engineers 
• Evaluate and recommend component suppliers and vendor capabilities and act as liaison with approved vendors/suppliers to maintain product/process availability
• Provide leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel.
• Provide technical expertise for spectrum management. 
• Provide Subject Matter Expertise as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s of Science degree in STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, 
   or Math); MS degree in related field, preferred.
• Diagnostics and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to coordinate work with other team members for successful project
   execution.
• Ability to work independently, good time management, and strong organizational
    skills.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with demonstrated
    capability to brief project information to management and customers.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to balance, plan, prioritize, and
    execute projects with specific emphasis on attention to detail.
• Good human relations and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and
    external support personnel, customers, and provide guidance to less experienced 
           engineers
• Solid conflict management skills and the ability to exercise diplomacy within a 
    team environment.

Additional Eligibility Requirements
• In depth knowledge of hardware- and server-based system integration and testing.
• Understanding of IP networks.
• Knowledge of RF data modulation (CPFSK, SOQPSK, FQPSK, etc.) and transport
    protocols and techniques.
• Knowledge of the principles and application of radio frequency (RF)
    instrumentation.
• Understanding of the principles and mitigation of electromagnetic/RF interference
    (EMI/RFI).
• The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements
• Ability to travel nationwide (10% maximum)
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship or U.S. naturalization
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License required


Required Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in hardware engineering, including leading
    proposal and project multi-discipline teams 
• Experience working with hardware- and server-based systems.
• Experience managing development projects 
• Experience with hardware development, design, and implementation.
• Experience working with Windows- and Linux-based computer systems and
    components.
• Experience with standard electronics test equipment such as multi-meters,
    oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.
• Proficiency with MS Office products





Working conditions


Working conditions may vary based on project and requirements.  Monday through Friday but may extend into nights, weekends and holidays. Temporary project offices will be provided on a case-by-case basis.

Physical requirements

Normal office environment mobility; sitting, walking, bending, stooping, standing, lifting a maximum of 25 pounds (greater than 25 pounds requires a two-person lift), turning, pushing.  Normal office dexterity, to include; reaching, handling, grasping, to include typing/keyboard, and phone use.
