Description

8-koi is currently seeking a Construction Estimator to support one of our contracts in Melbourne, FL. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Construction Managers to obtain accurate and up-to-date pricing information from databases, subcontractors, specialty contractors, suppliers, etc., to utilize in estimates and bids. Candidate will also review estimate takeoff information for specific disciplines in order to assess accuracy and suitability for project type and specific project requirements.

 

Position Requirements:

 

Candidate must have ability to perform quantity take-offs of various disciplines from construction documents including plans and specifications, progress drawings, conceptual sketches, change order revisions, addenda and design narratives. Candidates must have strong interpersonal skills, a client service attitude, attention to detail, the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of individuals and have the confidence to be assertive when needed. Must be able to pass in depth federal background check and drug screen and obtain a government security clearance.

Candidates must have minimum 3-5 years of federal/commercial construction cost estimating experience and the ability to perform conceptual estimates and bid preparation. Must be proficient with RS Means estimating, MCACES Gold is a plus, software and methodologies and experience estimating projects on a range from below $1M – $10M involving federal facilities, schools, and commercial projects.

 

Required Qualifications:

· A degree in construction or certified contractor license is a plus

· Knowledge of construction scheduling, cost loaded schedules and schedule of values

· Experience using RS Means software is required.

· Strong PC skills including MS suite, MS Project, automated accounting and cost management systems.

· Strong interpersonal and communications skills needed with understanding of fundamentals in estimating and project controls.

· Experience supporting Federal Design-Build and remodel projects preferred.

· Experience in developing cost estimates compliant with government audit including knowledge of basis of estimate and supporting documentation.

· Ability to breakdown construction operations into a logical sequence of activities; Fundamental understanding of construction phasing and organization of building components

· Knowledge construction market including pricing conventions and trends

· Can work independently, but more likely to work as a Team made up of pre-construction mangers, project managers, technicians, and engineers

· Organizational skills, oral and written communication and team attitude

· Willingness to learn and adapt to a changing market

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Prepare bids including perform quantity take offs based on a variety of information including multi-discipline plans and specifications (civil, architectural, structural, mechanical HVAC, plumbing, and electrical), progress drawings, conceptual sketches, change order revisions, addenda and design narratives

· Develop budget estimates using plans and specifications, or other conceptual information

· Review project plans and specifications and coordinate with the team to confirm complete scope

· Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude

· Solicit subcontractors, specialty subcontractor, vendors, and equipment suppliers’ information and pricing

· Prepare instructions to bidders, bid forms and other bid solicitation information as required

· Work with multi-discipline design-build team

· Perform the quantity survey and pricing effort for internal budgets

· Review and scoping of specialty contractor bids

· Review & identify constructability issues with operations staff

· Maintain and communicate data on construction and material cost trends affecting project costs

· Analyze alternate means and methods to determine the most economical alternative

· Review and estimate change orders and other cost impacts

· Multi tasking and time management

· Meet deadlines

· Travel for meeting with clients and/or subcontractors

· Attend project or construction walk downs to develop, verify, or scope tasking
